  • The story behind the image:

    When I was a kid living in Brooklyn, Coney Island was the place to go for great rides. Built in 1830, it had remained America's premier amusement park with its world famous Wonder Wheel, Cyclone and Parachute Jump.

    When I photographed the subject, it was immediately apparent how Coney Island had disintegrated over the years, while managing to maintain a sense of dignity and charm nonetheless.
